Distributed Application Layer Package - the latest release of DAL.

Installation

The following guide explains how to install DAL and what the requirements of DAL are.

Requirements

DAL is written in Java and requires a Java compiler and the Java application launcher. In addition, a C/C++ compiler is required to execute applications on top of Linux.

  • C/C++ environment (g++ version 4.3 or greater)
  • Java environment (version 1.7 or greater)
  • Build environment: make, Ant (version 1.9.0 or greater, download Ant)

Additional requirements may apply for certain back-ends.

Installation Steps

  1. Copy the dal_ethz.zip archive to some directory, for instance dal.
  2. Unzip the dal_ethz.zip archiv:
  3. $ unzip dal_ethz.zip
  4. That's it. Refer to Get Started for more information about running a DAL benchmark.

Installation Directory

After installing DAL, the installation directory has the following structure:

  • dal # DAL framework
    • build # build directory
    • jars # additional jar files required to execute DAL
    • schema # XML schemata for the input files
    • dal.jar # DAL package
  • dal-benchmarks # DAL benchmarks
    • arch # architecture specification files
    • workload # DAL benchmark containers
  • license # license files
  • scripts # additional scripts
  • rundal.xml # DAL execution script (short DAL script)
  • README.txt # README file
  • Version.txt # version information
